Roman Empire mod for Warband

457 AD: Last Years of the Western Empire is a custom mod created by the 457AD development team. In this game utility for Mount & Blade: Warband, you get to experience the dying years of the Western Roman Empire. It features new character models, factions, and weapons — all striving to achieve that historical accuracy.

Its attempt toward realism makes 457 AD: Last Years of the Western Empire one of the best mods out there. If you’re looking to experience other periods in history, check out Mount & Blade: Warband - Snow on the East Mod or The Triple Alliance - Paraguayan War Warband mods.

In the dying days of the Empire

You start in the dying years of the Western Roman Empire as 457 AD: Last Years of the Western Empire starts with the ascension of Majorian in the titular year. The mod overhauls the in-game factions to represent the Romans as well as the Huns, the Saxons, the Jutes, and more. Choose your side and meet the warlords and generals who will inspire legends to come.

The most exciting feature in this mod is the custom weapons and armors created specifically for the era. New models and textures are introduced, each working toward a certain regional and chronological accuracy that makes the game even more immersive and fun to play. These new items also come with accompanying stats and buffs that show the different strengths and weaknesses of every tribe and nation at the time.

While it is expansive and immersive, this mod is still not free from bugs. Players report inexplicable relationship issues with leaders and troops after doing certain actions in-game. There are also instances where units spawn without the right equipment. Lastly, the mod doesn’t support all versions of the game. You might want to check first whether it will run smoothly depending on the version of Warband you have installed.

A must-have historical mod

Its commitment to let players recreate a historical period makes 457 AD: Last Years of the Western Empire a must-have, especially for fans of accuracy in representation. Its different factions, each with its own set of weapons and armors, make for a fun and immersive gameplay. Although it suffers from a few bugs, it remains mostly playable and largely enjoyable. Recommended.
